Larian Studios Announce a Latest Divinity, Declaring it Their Biggest RPG Ever

The buzz surrounding the recent awards show has been intense, notably after presenter Geoff Keighley shared a mysterious photo of a strange statue. The secret is finally answered. The acclaimed developer is creating a brand-new Divinity game.

Titled simply Divinity, the game was presented with a audacious trailer packed with memorable imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to scenes of revelry and the literal unleashing of hell.

Moving Beyond Original Sin

Anyone hoping for Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. The studio stated ahead of time that a third Original Sin game to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not currently in development.

However, the developer described this new Divinity as a next chapter of the main series. This distinction implies that the team might be designing a more action-oriented experience rather than another tactical title. At this moment, we can only guess, as only a teaser video is available.

The Legacy of Divinity

The Divinity series is highly rated and arguably it kicked off the recent resurgence of deep computer role-playing games. These games are known for intricate stories, player agency, and complex character building—elements that later were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its universe is traditional swords and sorcery, what really distinguishes Divinity apart is the remarkable agency bestowed upon the player.

While numerous modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is full of niche playthroughs that are viable if you're playing as a distinct build with a personal story.

The series is also notoriously permissive, enabling players to experiment in narrative and gameplay. Most missions can be completed in a variety of manners, often in unexpected fashion.

  • You might progress the story because you remembered something a non-human character said.
  • Or, you could defeat a foe by moving environmental hazards in a clever way.

More to Come

It is this design philosophy that allow people to label games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games in history. Now, the RPG community can look forward to another adventure in this esteemed franchise.
